Initial situation: There was no structured warehouse management, the employees had to remember the storage locations of the items.
At the beginning of 2022, the digitization of warehouse processes was defined as one of the focus projects for the year. The LED Linear™ team therefore started looking for suitable software, including at trade fairs (such as LogiMat). One of the main requirements for this project was to require as few interfaces as possible. This gave them the idea of asking their ERP manufacturer for a suitable solution. The mx.ERP system from Iptor multiflex has been in use at LED Linear™ since 2011. The ERP manufacturer was confronted with the new requirements and was also able to offer a suitable solution for the upcoming digitization project.
Restructuring of the warehouse and introduction of the new WMS
Until the introduction of mx.Mobile, the warehouses were operated without storage spaces and instead with the help of paper printouts. This was now to be optimized - the printed picking slips were to give way to a digital solution. In addition, the physical warehouses were to be rebuilt and restructured.
The requirements for the digitization project were defined by LED Linear™ in advance, in a long process. As a result, the actual conversion project was completed in just three months and the go-live took place in October 2023. After the successful transition, an employee of LED Linear™ was trained and then passed on the information to is colleagues.
Remarkably, the introduction of the new software did not lead to any resistance within the company, as all employees were asked in advance about the upcoming restructuring and given the opportunity to contribute their own ideas and wishes. This approach meant that the entire department was united behind the digitization project and it was very well received.
The advantages of a digitally managed warehouse
The error rate in the area of commercial goods and production goods has been significantly reduced through digitization. The search time in the warehouse has also been reduced by around 70-80%. Before the digitization of the warehouse, the employee was the database. Now anyone can look in the system to see where a specific article is and find it quickly. In times when environmental protection is becoming increasingly important, another benefit is the considerable paper savings.
