Initially, the tire dealer was working with an outdated ERP system
The warehouses have been managed using the ERP system from software provider Iptor multiflex (then POLLEX-LC GmbH) since 2010. Until then, Reifen Team West had a functioning but outdated ERP system. During the 15 years of cooperation between the two companies, work routines have been and continue to be digitalized. For example, online appointment booking was introduced, interfaces to the web portals were programmed and, most recently, digital warehouse management with scanners was implemented.
All of these innovations had a common goal: to reduce the workload on employees. The resources gained as a result should then be able to be used for new tasks.
The introduction of scanners in the warehouse area
When the scanners were introduced in the warehouse area, digitization was essential due to the increased quantities and variety of products. The analog processing of warehouse logistics had reached its limits. In numerous online meetings, the existing program functions were compared with the desired functionalities and workflows were defined on this basis. In order to actually make work easier for the employees in question, the whole team was involved in the process at all times.
Finally, the desired functionalities were programmed. After a very intensive preparation period, it was possible to go live in just one day. Of course, the Reifen Team West employees were also accompanied and supported by the Iptor Austria team on the following days.
Success factors and benefits for the tire dealer
Very good planning and preparation in advance led to an almost smooth project flow. The in-house IT department was also able to contribute to solving any problems that arose with certain workarounds. Last but not least, the good communication between the teams of the two companies must be mentioned for the successful completion of the project.
Although at first there were internal objections to the many changes in the operational processes, after a certain familiarization phase everyone involved - the company, the employees and also the customers - has benefited from faster and more efficient handling of the warehouse processes and a considerable reduction in the error rate.
